The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Series is one of the most well-known coin programs in the world. The Royal Canadian Mint is constantly striking unique individual releases, such as this one, to provide variety to the overarching series. The RCMP was formed in 1873, originally as the NWMP. The Mounties are currently serving in 8 of Canada's 10 provinces and are also responsible for Canadian internal security. They were given the name "Mounties" due to the regions in which they served, horses or in other instances sled dogs were needed.
